Simon has a long-held fascination with the spine as a structural element, and it has influenced a many of his designs.
He created this elegant statement jewellery box to minimise the boxiness of common jewellery drawers and emphasise the drawers themselves.
The deeply humanist design is simple but striking.
The American White Oak vertebra cradle 4 lined and dovetailed drawers fronted with a honey gold plane tree veneer. The drawers are opened using the smooth and contrasting African Blackwood and Tagua Nut handles.
This is a one-of-a-kind piece and the only one available to purchase world-wide.
Features of Note
WARM BUT MINIMALIST DESIGN
The Spine Jewellery Box is defined most by what isn’t there: the voids in the support structure turn a standard design into a highly empathetic design with a warming room presence.
Simon created this piece to speak confidently but with restraint. The confidence was achieved through a brilliant pairing of some of the world’s most valued timbers from his personal collection. Restraint was achieved by rethinking how much of each of those materials were used.
One of a Kind
This piece of furniture is truly one of a kind, and is an evolution of Simon’s ongoing interests in applying humanist design concepts to his work. It will be the perfect addition to the life of someone not afraid to tell the world where they stand.
